Blockchain has never been so popular. Have you ever thought of its applications in urban development? In addition to administrative areas, it could also be incorporated into the development of Smart Cities. This BBL will feature two prominent practitioners working on this area.
Dubai is one of the first cities to engage with blockchain. Nitin Guar will present the IBM – Dubai Smart City Blockchain Project which now being carried out a city-wide pilot. It can provide a road map to anyone interested in creating smart cities by transforming transactions with the distributed ledger technology.
On the other hand, Xiaochen Zhang will present the Smart City Blockchain Lab that they are developing with other partners. He will not only showcase the blockchain use cases but also give a focus to the blockchain and smart city nexus.
About the Presenters:
Nitin Guar is responsible for instituting a body of knowledge and organizational understanding around blockchain technology and industry specific applications. His mission is building a “blockchain for enterprise”practice with client facing responsibilities and is tasked with building a new business built around industry disruption and disintermediation. As a founding member of the open-source Linux Foundation Hyperledger project, and a driver of global blockchain collaboration and innovation, IBM is working across government and industries such as finance, government, healthcare, insurance, supply chains and IoT.
Xiaochen Zhang leads the design and implementation of FinTech4Goods’s strategy which aims to introduce impactful fintech and blockchain solutions to frontier markets through incubation, acceleration and investment. He is the Chairman of the Global Digital Economy Hub, and serves on the Crowdfunding Professional Association Board of Directors, UN ESCAP Digital Economy Task Force and as a senior advisor of the China Social Entrepreneurs Foundation and Inter-America Development Bank. He is also the founder of Blockchain Frontier Group and a co-chair of several blockchain labs. Prior to FinTech4Good, Xiaochen advised government agencies and multinational organizations on innovation, emerging technologies, and investment in positions at the World Bank, United Nations, and other international partnership platforms. He also taught innovation and venture building at leading business schools and served as mentors for many innovative businesses.
